The Malayalam film industry has been on a roll lately, churning out hits one after the other. However, it seems like Turbo, starring Mammootty, is not going to be one of them. The film, directed by Vysakh, has been panned by critics and audiences alike for its weak and jaded script.

The plot, written by Midhun Manuel Thomas, follows Turbo Jose, a village simpleton who lives in Idukki with his mother. Jose has an uncanny habit of getting into frequent fist fights with those around him, earning him the moniker Turbo. However, things take a twist when Jose gets drawn into a larger-than-life plot involving a bank scam and politics.

Meanwhile, in a different cinematic universe, The Garfield Movie has also been met with disappointment. The film, directed by Mark Dindal, tries to do too much and ends up being a generic story that fails to capture the essence of the beloved cartoon character.

The film follows Garfield, voiced by Chris Pratt, as he reunites with his long-lost father, Vic, voiced by Samuel L. Jackson. Together, they embark on a heist to steal milk from a dairy farm, but things don’t quite go as planned.

Both films suffer from the same problem - they try to pack too much into their narratives, resulting in a lack of focus and coherence. Turbo’s script is lazy, with too many plot threads that don’t quite tie together, while The Garfield Movie tries to be both a heartwarming family story and a goofy caper, but ends up being neither here nor there.

Despite their shortcomings, both films have their moments. Turbo has some well-choreographed action sequences, and Mammootty shines in the few scenes where he gets to showcase his acting prowess. The Garfield Movie, on the other hand, has some sweet moments between Garfield and his father, but they are few and far between.

In the end, both films are a letdown, failing to live up to their potential. Here’s hoping that the next outing for these characters will be more successful.
