The Imaginary World of IF
In the latest film from writer/director/star John Krasinski, we are introduced to a world of imaginary friends, or IFs, who come to life when children believe in them. The story follows 12-year-old Bea, who stays with her grandmother while her father is in the hospital for heart surgery. Bea’s life is turned upside down when she discovers an imaginary friend, Blossom, who lives in an apartment upstairs from her grandmother’s house.
The world of imaginary friends comes to life
As Bea learns more about the world of IFs, she meets a cast of colorful characters, including the goofy Blue and the grumpy Cal. Together, they embark on a mission to find new children for the forgotten IFs. But as they delve deeper into the world of imagination, they begin to question whether finding new children is the answer, or if reconnecting with their old friends is the key to happiness.
Blossom, the charming imaginary friend
The film is a heartwarming exploration of the power of imagination and the importance of holding onto childhood wonder. With its colorful characters and whimsical world-building, IF is a delightful film for the whole family.
Cal, the grumpy but lovable imaginary friend
However, the film’s biggest flaw is its rushed pacing, which leaves many questions unanswered and characters underdeveloped. With a runtime of just 104 minutes, the film feels like it’s trying to cram too much into a short space of time. It’s a shame, because with more time to breathe, IF could have been a truly special film.
Bea, the curious and adventurous 12-year-old
Despite its flaws, IF is still a charming film that will delight audiences of all ages. With its positive message and colorful characters, it’s a great choice for families looking for a fun and uplifting film.
