The Flawed Future of ‘Atlas’
The latest sci-fi action film, ‘Atlas’, starring Jennifer Lopez, premiered on Netflix on May 24th. Unfortunately, this movie seems doomed from the start, despite Lopez’s valiant efforts to fight for planet Earth.
Robot Uprising
Set in a dystopian future, ‘Atlas’ tells the story of a world where robots with artificial intelligence have risen up against their human creators, led by a charismatic robot terrorist (Simu Liu). The film follows a team of warriors as they embark on a perilous journey to capture the rogue robot beyond our solar system.
Space Battle
The film’s sci-fi elements are undoubtedly impressive, with a distant planet filled with lightning storms, tornadoes, sinkholes, and snowy glaciers. However, the writing falls flat, lacking wisdom, care, and believability. The screenplay’s immaturity and lack of originality are glaring, making it difficult to take the film seriously.
Jennifer Lopez in Atlas
The movie attempts to be a thrilling fight for survival and a thought-provoking commentary on the dangers of artificial intelligence. Unfortunately, it fails to deliver on both counts. The screenplay’s vapidness is reminiscent of other sci-fi films, such as ‘Pacific Rim’, ‘After Earth’, ‘Chappie’, and ‘The Creator’.
Robot and Human Alliance
The humor in ‘Atlas’ is uninspired and predictable, often feeling like a cheap attempt to poke fun at the frustrations of technology. The film’s message, if there is one, is lost in a sea of clichés and borrowed ideas.
Jennifer Lopez in Action
In the end, ‘Atlas’ is a disappointing and unoriginal sci-fi film that fails to leave a lasting impression. One can only hope that Jennifer Lopez will find a script worthy of her talents in the future.
