Recently, director Shawn Levy shared with The New York Times some insight into just how dedicated Cavill was to his role as a Wolverine variant in the new Deadpool and Wolverine movie. Levy said: “I think we all were, including poor Henry Cavill, who not only had that pumped-up muscular body but kept that cigar lit and in his mouth for the entirety of the shoot day. I remember hearing the next day that Henry was sick to his stomach because he had been inhaling cigar smoke for eight hours straight, but never once did he waver.”

I must admit, I was a bit worried when I heard about the cigar. However, I know that Cavill is a professional, and if anyone can pull off a difficult role like this, it’s him. He has a proven track record of throwing himself into his characters, as fans of The Witcher will attest. For example, in the Netflix series, he brought a depth and nuance to the character of Geralt of Rivia that was amazing to watch. His portrayal of the character was a big part of why the show was such a success.
It’s also worth noting that Cavill has addressed his cameo as well, sharing a picture of his appearance in the threequel on Instagram alongside a cheeky Justice League jibe. “To be safe, I shaved the moustache off for this one. Just the moustache,” he wrote.
