Epic Proportions: Kalki 2898 AD Review

Kalki 2898 AD, the latest sci-fi film from India, is an ambitious project that brings together a star-studded cast from across the country. The film, set in the year 2898 AD, boasts an impressive ensemble, including Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan, Prabhas, and Deepika Padukone.

The futuristic world of Kalki 2898 AD

The film’s narrative is sprawling, with a multitude of characters vying for attention. At the center of it all is Prabhas, playing the role of Bhairava, a bounty hunter tasked with protecting the world from an ancient evil. However, it’s Amitabh Bachchan who steals the show as Ashwatthama, a gravelly and epic-like figure who towers over the rest of the cast.

“This Telugu language sci-fi film, set in, what else, 2898 AD, is the first comprehensive pan-Indian film.”

The film’s first half is slow to get off the ground, with too much time spent on unfunny humor and not enough on the actual plot. However, things pick up post-interval, with the introduction of Kyra (Anna Ben) and her compatriots, who bring much-needed energy to the film.

Deepika Padukone shines as the lab-lady SUM-80

Despite its flaws, Kalki 2898 AD is a visually stunning film, with impressive action sequences and a richly detailed world. The question is, will the next installment learn from its mistakes and deliver a more cohesive and engaging experience?
